Thank you to all our staff and customers who helped us raise £500 for Special Care Baby Unit. We have offered free cream teas for donations, held raffles and a range of activities in the Parlour and all money has been gratefully received.
On Valentine’s Day 2018, our little granddaughter Ivy was born – far too early, in a hurry am feet first! We are so grateful for the care received in SCBU and realize today how lucky we are to have her in our lives and the tremendous joy she brings to the family.
On Valentine’s day this year, Ivy’s first birthday, myself, my daughter and her partner revisited special care to present the Cheque, some
Bessie cakes and some dear little hats for the babies – knitted by our waitress Evie’s gran.
Thank you to everyone who came to our Festive, Disney Frozen themed afternoon tea – we all had a great time and so lovely to see the children all dressed up.

We were delighted to win two categories in the Great British Food Awards, judged by Nathan Outlaw. We won both the best sweet bake with our Allotment cake and best savoury bake with out Leek and Kentish Blue cheese tart. It was great to receive such good feedback and hope our customers continue to enjoy them when they are served in the Parlour.
Thank you to everyone who voted for us in the first phase of the awards. The judges were served an array of our produce and given a presentation on the history, present day and future of the Bessie business. We are so lucky to have such a great supply of wonderful Kent produce on our doorstep to work with. Produced in Kent enable us all to network together and raise awareness of many small food producers and suppliers.
Friday 27th October 2.30-4.30pm sees the return of the very popular Hallloween Town Trail organised by the Broadstairs Chamber of Commerce. 500 children and their families will be in fancy dresss, excitedly visiting all the shops with a special sign in their window to collect a treat. So many shops are involved and of course Bessie’s! We will be busy making some Halloween treats for them all. I believe all 500 tokens have been sold already!
Tuesday 31st October 4.30pm we have just one sitting of a very seasonal afternoon tea – just a few spaces left so be quick if you feel like a bit of fun. Suitable for both children and adults.
We are very pleased to say that we have been shortlisted in the Great British Food Awards 2017 in two categories – Sweet and Savoury Bake. The first phase of the judging took place in Essex and the final phase with chef Nathan Outlaw in Cornwall.
The sweet bake, now in the final was our Allotment cake that makes the most of seasonal fruit and vegetables, in addition to Kentish Cobnuts. It is similar to a carrot cake but varies with the seasons The savoury bake was Leek and Kentish Blue cheese tart.
Thank you to great local food suppliers:
Thanks also goes to one of our very kind customers who grows our Butternut squashes.
The final outcome will be announced in the October edition of the Great British Food Magazine which comes out 8th September.
